The Independent Medical Practitioners Association (IMPA) of Sri Lanka held its ceremonial induction of Dr. Sanath Hettige as President for the year 2025 on Friday, 22nd August 2025, at “The View”, Waters Edge, Battaramulla. This marked a proud and historic milestone as IMPA conducted its first-ever ceremonial presidential induction.

The occasion was graced by Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary of Health and Mass Media and Chairman of the Country Coordinating Mechanism Sri Lanka (CCMSL), as Chief Guest, with the distinguished Professor Mohan De Silva serving as Guest of Honour. After the formal induction, Dr. Hettige delivered his inaugural address as the new President.

Adding to the grandeur of the evening, 25 long-serving members of IMPA were presented with special awards in recognition of their unwavering dedication and outstanding service. The ceremony drew a distinguished gathering of eminent personalities, senior medical professionals, and well-wishers who came together to celebrate this landmark event.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Kanthi Ariyarathne, Joint Secretary of IMPA, and the programme concluded with a grand reception.

Among those honoured were Dr. Iyanthi Abeywickrama, Dr. Sarath Samarage, and Dr. Sujatha Samarakoon, who have all been closely associated with CCMSL in various capacities.

CCMSL takes great pride in IMPA’s achievements. The Association continues to represent the “Private Sector” category within the Civil Society Organizations constituency as an uncontested member.
