Election to select Civil Society Organizations Members for the New Term 2025/28

Country Coordinating Mechanism of Sri Lanka (CCMSL) had conducted the “Election to select Civil Society Organizations Members for the New Term 2025/28” successfully on 18th June 2025 for the selection of members for the constituencies of Non -Governmental Organizations (5 seats) and for the People Living with Disease -Tuberculosis (1 seat). This was conducted through a very transparent procedure as per the adopted Election Guidelines of the CCMSL.

Total number of applications or Expression of Interest (EOIs) were one hundred (100). Total number EOIs accepted either as candidates or voters were fifty-five (55) whereas forty-five (45) were rejected due to not fulfilling the criteria for eligibility.

The constituencies of Academia, Private Sector, People Living with Disease -HIV (PLWDHIV), Key Populations 1 (representing men having sex with men, sex workers, transgender individuals and people who Inject drugs) had been selected uncontested and comprised of 1 seat each.

Five organizations had been selected in the constituency of Non-Governmental Organizations whereas one organization was selected in the constituency of People Living with Diseases -Tuberculosis (PLWDTB)through the election held on 18th June 2025.

There were no eligible candidates for the constituencies of Key Populations 2 (representing   youth, refugees and migrants, women and girls, adolescents, tourism service providers, prisoners, orphans, vulnerable children and populations of humanitarian concerns) and Faith Based Organizations as per the Election Guidelines adopted which stressed the legal registration of the organizations although there were applicants who are active in those fields.

There were no eligible candidates for the categories of Faith Based Organizations and Key Population 2.

These final results were presented at the Oversight Committee Meeting held on 20th June 2025 and got them endorsed and recommended. Subsequently the final results were tabled at the CCMSL Meeting held on 24th June 2025 and the results were accepted, approved and endorsed.
